OUR MAN ON THE GROUND on the INVASION

UNLIKE THE NARRATIVE THAT PERSISTED FOR A DECADE ABOUT SYRIA, ISIS, AND THOSE "POOR REFUGEES", THIS TIME AROUND, LET THE FACTS FORM THE NARRATIVE.
The following is the result of personal contact and discussions with many migrants currently residing in Cyprus where I live.
These migrants include people from African countries such as Nigeria, Cameroon, Algeria, Ethiopia, Sudan, Tunisia etc, as well as many from Asian countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Afghanistan etc.
When I asked them how they ended up in Cyprus, as the island is not close to their countries to have crossed over on inflatable rafts, those that felt they could speak about it, there were others that did not, informed me that they first made their way to Turkey, taking advantage of cheap flights on Turkey's National carrier, in some cases as little as 20 dollars a head on condition that their ultimate destination would be either the Greek islands or the Republic of Cyprus.
Once in Turkey, the human traffickers take over. They transport them either to western Turkey for passage to the Greek islands or southern Turkey for the occupied northern part of Cyprus.
Passage to Cyprus costs anything from 3,000 to 5,000 dollars a head and once they reach the pseudo state of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (recognised only by Turkey), they are given maps showing crossing points on the line of division that runs along the length of the island. The instructions the Turks give them is that they should immediately destroy any travel and identity documents they have in their possession, make up a story of having come from a war-torn region (such as Kashmir) where their lives were at risk, assume a false name, learn this off by heart and once across into the Republic of Cyprus, head to the nearest police station and "demand" political asylum.
In accordance with EU laws, their application has to be examined by the local authorities that try in vain to verify their stated identity with the country they claimed to have come from. If the authorities cannot disprove their claim within a period of 32 days, they are free to go pending the finalisation of their political asylum status. Once free, they head straight for the Social Welfare Office where they ask for everything stipulated by EU law, including shelter and monetary benefits. If they have any trouble securing these, NGOs based on Cyprus, the phone numbers of which the migrants are in possession of, step in to demand it on their behalf.
These are just the documented migrants on Cyprus. There are those who are not documented, that crossed over from the occupied territories and have mingled with the tens of thousands of other migrants, keeping one step ahead of the authorities to avoid expulsion.
